Tsiambwom M. AkuchuTsiambwom M. Akuchu (Avery) is an actor, dancer, choreographer and performance artist based in Atlanta, Ga. He recently graduated with an MFA in acting and has been performing around New England with his choreographic work for the past several months.

Corey M. GagneCorey M. Gagne (Sam) trained at Mountview Theater Conservatory (now Mountview Academy) in London, and has appeared on stages in London, New York, Philadelphia, and Austin. Corey has most recently appeared as Major Carey in Ben Butler at Portland Stage. Other recent credits include Hank in False Flag (Dramatic Repertory Company), Kenny in Detroit (The Theater Project), Mr. Burns in Mr. Burns, A Post-Electric Play (Mad Horse Theater Company), Blount in Roles of a Lifetime (Luminous Productions), Kent in King Lear (Luminous Productions), Hortensio in The Taming of the Shrew (Bare Portland), Jack in Brighton Beach Memoirs (Portland Stage), Bernard in A Number (Dramatic Repertory Company), and Cecil in Equivocation (Dramatic Repertory Company).

Johnny Speckman
Johnny Speckman (Skylar / The Dreaming Man) is a local actor, designer, director, and fight choreographer. Thanks to Keith for the opportunity to play with DRC again! Love to Anna for her patience and strength.

Casey TurnerCasey Turner (Rose) is a Portland based actor who started in vaudeville, apprenticing at the Oddfellow Theater and studying at the Celebration Barn Theater. She received a BA in Theatre from the University of Southern Maine. Select theatre credits include: Portland Stage Company (Lost Boy Found in Whole Foods), Seven Stages Shakespeare Company (Lear), Fenix Theatre Company (Three Sisters, Much Ado About Nothing), Mad Horse Theater Company (Stupid Fucking Bird), Dramatic Repertory Company (Venus in Fur, My Name is Rachel Corrie, Tigers be Still), Good Theater (Homer Bound, 4000 Miles, The Little Dog Laughed), The Theater Project (Eurydice), SPACE Gallery (Killer Joe), AIRE (The Lonesome West, Eclipsed), The Originals (Dancing at Lughnasa). Casey is also a voice over artist and Production Coordinator for a local documentary group.

Annie Baker (Playwright). Annie Baker's full-length plays include The Flick (Playwrights Horizons, OBIE Award for Playwriting, Susan Smith Blackburn Prize), Circle Mirror Transformation (Playwrights Horizons, OBIE Award for Best New American Play, Drama Desk nomination for Best Play), The Aliens (Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, OBIE Award for Best New American Play), Body Awareness (Atlantic Theater Company, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle nominations for Best Play/Emerging Playwright), and an adaptation of Anton Chekhov's Uncle Vanya, for which she also designed the costumes (Soho Rep). Ms. Baker's plays have been performed at over 100 theatres across the USA and in England, Australia, Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Peru, Venezuela, Mexico, Latvia, Sweden, and Russia. She is a Residency Five playwright at Signature Theatre and a member of New Dramatists, MCC's Playwrights Coalition and EST. Recent honors include a New York Drama Critics Circle Award, a Susan Smith Blackburn Prize nomination, a Lilly Award, a Time Warner Storytelling Fellowship, a MacDowell fellowship and a Master Artist Residency at Atlantic Center for the Arts. A published anthology of her work, The Vermont Plays, is available from TCG books.

Keith Powell Beyland (Director) recently directed the critically-acclaimed DRC productions of Cock (the cockfight play) (co-directed - Theatrical Highlight of 2018 - Portland Phoenix), Venus In Fur (co-directed - Theatrical Highlight of 2017 - Portland Phoenix), The (curious case of the) Watson Intelligence (Theatrical Highlight of 2015 - Portland Phoenix), Equivocation (co-directed, Theatrical Highlight of 2014 - Portland Phoenix), My Name Is Rachel Corrie (Theatrical Highlight of 2014 - Portland Phoenix), A Bright New Boise (co-production with Fenix Theatre, Theatrical Highlight of 2013 - Portland Phoenix), Topdog/Underdog (Best Production - 2013 PEER Award, Theatrical Highlight of 2012 - Portland Phoenix), [title of show], Tigers Be Still, Gross Indecency: The Three Trials of Oscar Wilde, Life During Wartime and Blue/Orange. He spent the last two decades working on and off Broadway with respected organizations like Roundabout Theatre Company, Manhattan Theatre Club, Signature Theatre Company (NY), The New Group, Berkshire Theatre Festival and Irondale Ensemble Project. Keith studied with Athol Fugard, John Patrick Shanley, Paula Vogel, Maria Irene Fornes, Anne Hamburger, Carey Perloff and Venable Herndon, among others. He holds a degree with Honors from the Dramatic Writing Program at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts.

Dustin Tucker (Scenic Design) is probably most well known in Portland for his baking abilities and never having been on “Law & Order”, but he also enjoys designing theater on the side. Many thanks to DRC for bringing him on board for this play. dustintucker.com

Anna Halloran (Costume Design) Anna is thrilled to be costuming her first show with DRC, especially one set in her hometown! MICHAELA WIRTH (Lighting Design). Rarely seen in the full light of day, this designer is delighted to be working once again with DRC. When not in the darkness of the theatre, she can often be found in the darkness of the projection booth of the Nickelodeon... planning the lights for the next DRC show!

Matt Kennedy (Sound Design) is thrilled to be designing again for DRC. Past sound designs have included work for Fenix Theater, Stephen Madigan's Richard III, and Freeport Factory Stage. He also performs regularly as a saxophonist and arranger throughout Maine and New England. He credits DRC's Fabuloso, Year of the Rooster (for his four-year-old son's love of Pantera).

Lauren Stockless (Assistant Director) is excited to be working on this production of The Flick as her second show with DRC! She is a graduate of Colby College with a double major in Theatre & Dance and English Literature, and more recently finished a Master's of Science in Theatre and Performance Studies at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. Some past favorite shows include: Life Sucks. (Stage Manager, Mad Horse Theater Company), False Flag (Asst. Director/Dramaturg, Dramatic Repertory Company), Art (Director, Powder and Wig), Twelfth Night (Director, Edinburgh University Shakespeare Company), You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown (Director, Performing Arts Center of MetroWest), and Scrooge The Musical (Stage Manager, Riverside Theatre Works).

Andrew Hesselbart (Stage Manager) is very excited to return to DRC after working on Fabuloso, Cock, False Flag, Year of the Rooster, Venus in Fur and Gidion's Knot. He is a cofounder of Ellipsis Productions, a pop-up theatre collaborative based out of Portland. Previous stage management credits include work with Portland Stage, Mad Horse, AIRE, Acorn Productions, Lorem Ipsum, and 60 Grit. He attended the University of Southern Maine.

Tsiambwom M. Akuchu (Everyman, UM Theatre & Dance), Corey M. Gagne (Equivocation, DRC), Johnny Speckman (The Watson Intelligence, DRC) and Casey Turner (Venus in Fur, DRC). In a movie theater near Worcester, MA (called The Flick) -- one of the few that hasn't yet switched to digital film -- three employees work dreary jobs for just above minimum wage: selling tickets, cleaning up after patrons, and running the projector. The economy is depressed and so are they, and yet over the course of this Pulitzer Prize-winning drama, Sam, Rose, and Avery show themselves to be complex, feeling people with unrealized ambitions to become more than their dreary surroundings. Annie Baker's drama unfolds in unhurried naturalistic scenes, and her astonishingly well observed and subtle characterizations suggest a Chekhovian ability to forge compelling drama from the littleness of everyday life.
